Antenatal Service

The objective of this service is to provide pregnant ladies with a private antenatal service at the Medical Centre. Pregnant ladies may self refer or be referred by their GP, Obstetrician or Midwife.

Provision of Antenatal Care
“Care should be centered on the pregnant woman; the aim should be to keep her fully informed on the progress of her pregnancy and to provide her with the evidence based information and support to make informed decisions” (National Institute of Clinical Excellence NICE – Antenatal Care document 2003)

While Mr. Penman TS MRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist & Specialist in Fetal Medicine performs scans for babies, Mr. Dib Datta MD MRCPI MRCOG, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecoloigst will undertake all antenatal consultations. Clinics are assisted by a fully qualified Community Midwife and a clinic nurse will always be available on the premises if required.

Comprehensive Care for Mother & Baby
Besides Mr. Datta’s extensive experience in the discipline he has a Special Skills Module in Maternal Medicine and together with Mr. Penman, the Medical Centre aims to provide a comprehensive surveillance package for the entire pregnancy ensure health & safety for mother and child.

Appointments
Appointments will be 20-30 minutes in duration where mothers-to-be would be able to discuss all aspects of their stage in pregnancy and address any concerns or worries. Bookings will coincide with Mr Penman’s scanning sessions, minimizing the number of visits required. This is an out-patient service only – no deliveries will take place at the Medical Centre. These will take place at either Maidstone Hospital or Pembury Hospital.

Communication
All mothers opting for a package of care will have their care co-ordinated with their Community Midwife. A letter encapsulating the antenatal consultation will be sent to those mentioned above, plus a copy placed in the maternity notes. A plan of pregnancy care would be included and changes in care if indicated, documented in a separate letter. This will include all delivery plans and special precautions if required. This documentation will be in addition to the printed scan reports and CD’s issued by Mr Penman during visits for scans. Contact telephone numbers will be provided for every mother to be for reassurance outside of normal clinic hours.

There are five separate packages available, each with different entry levels and prices, details of which are available upon request.

Entry Level One 10-40+ Weeks
Entry Level Two 16 – 40+ Weeks
Entry Level Three 24 – 40+ Weeks
Entry Level Four 34 – 40+ Weeks
Entry Level Five 40+ Weeks

Mothers-to-be will at times be quoted in writing the price of their care package, including any possible exclusions.*

All packages include a first booking visit where a wide range of topics will be discussed including lifestyle, height, weight blood pressure testing, urine testing and blood tests if required. Following this all further visits will include all scheduled scans, blood tests.

*Please note: Some pre-existing medical conditions will not be covered by the packages
